Yanxin Dou

Dr. DOU Yanxin is a research fellow in the Centre of Ion Beam Applications, National University of Singapore. He has been engaged in research on nuclear microprobe technology and applications since 2013. His research interests are beam optics, ion beam analysis (IBA), ion beam modification, proton beam writing, radiation effects and Geant4 simulation. He develops a software for focus and aberrations of nuclear microprobes published in 2021. He breaks the 10 nm resolution barrier using molecular ions in nuclear microprobes published in 2023. Using the improved nuclear microprobe, he explores the applications of this technology in various fields, including fundamental physics, microfabrication, 2D materials/thin films characterization, space science, bioimaging and radiobiology.

Franck Gobet

My research activity aims to characterize experimentally and numerically the relaxation of complex systems put into non-equilibrium states after intense and localized energy deposition by atomic or electronic collision, as well as by intense laser-matter interaction. By combining statistical physics and nuclear instrumentation, I have been able to carry out original studies of the dynamic and statistical properties of various systems under high energy deposition: single molecules, molecular clusters, plasma, and more recently, liquid water or DNA in solution exposed to very high proton fluences.

I have been recently tackling to measure yields of water radiolysis species to elucidate the mechanism of FLASH radiotherapy performed at ultra-high dose rate. Now, our team is working on more advanced parts regarding the FLASH mechanism, DNA strand break and surviving fraction of living cells for example. Collaboration is very welcome to understand phenomena in the chemical phase, so please talk to me with coffee or beer.

Geoffrey Grime

Geoff Grime is one of the pioneers of nuclear microbeam technology and applications. In the1970s, together with Frank Watt at the Nuclear Physics Laboratory of the University of Oxford, he developed the beam optics methods crucial to the understanding of MeV Ion microbeams and in 1980 was part of the team that built the first MeV microbeam with 1 µm resolution.   Since then, at Oxford, and from 2002 at the University of Surrey Ion Beam Centre, he has continued to explore new methods and applications of MeV microbeams and has made significant contributions to subjects ranging from Archaeology to Zoology.  He was a founder of Oxford Microbeams Ltd and is the author of two software packages widely used for modelling focusing systems (WinTRAX) and data collection and processing (OMDAQ).
